"Here Comes Everybody" was an album I personally really enjoyed last summer. I remember listening to it while wandering around the city that I had lived for years, lying under the shade in a park until it's a bit chilly, and making the same pasta salad 4 times a week. You know there are some bands you only listen to very casually, but before you realise it, they carry some of the most comforting and relaxing memories of your year? That is Spacey Jane to me. And you know there are some bands you love SO MUCH that you have to fly to Paris to see them on a tiny boat? That is Spacey Jane to Alice. Keep reading for the full experience of seeing Spacey Jane through Alice's eyes. I'm sure you'll find something relatable in her words even you've never heard of this band. Enjoy and have a wonderful week!

Where do I even begin with this gig and this band? As an avid music reviewer and hardcore fan of Spacey Jane, I know it will be hard to put into words how special and unforgettable this gig was as I have never experienced a gig as personal and as mesmerising as this one.
I first discovered Spacey Jane about 4 years ago and I have been completely obsessed ever since. Their first EP ‘No Way to Treat an Animal’ was released in 2017 and it is an absolutely timeless record of pure aussie indie goodness. Spacey Jane have some of the tracks from this record on their setlist which was mind-blowing for me to hear live after loving their music for years and having so much personal emotion attached to some of these songs like ‘Feeding the Family’ and ‘Thrills’. Both of their albums also hold such important and inspirational messages that resonate with every Spacey fan, which is the goal of the band to make songs relatable to everybody. The song ‘Pulling Through’ form their most recent record ‘Here Comes Everybody’ holds some beautiful lyrics that everyone can associate with and is just one example of many remarkable Spacey Jane songs.
I could talk about this band and their music all day, so I’ll get back to the most magical gig of my life which happened on a little boat in Paris that only held 200 people. It was such a surreal experience seeing Australia’s most loved band in such a tiny venue at their first ever gig in France, and I think every single aussie in Paris turned up for it! I was in touching distance of a band that I thought I’d never be lucky enough to see live as they are from the other side of the world, and it's safe to say I cried many tears seeing them in the flesh.

So, 4 days prior to this gig I saw Spacey Jane in Birmingham for the first time in my life and I thought that night could never be topped. I was standing 2 rows from the barrier directly in front of bassist Peppa Lane and as soon as the band came on, she immediately saw me, a hardcore, devoted Spacey Jane fan who knew every single word to every single song. She kept making eye contact, smiling and singing with me throughout the whole gig because she saw in my emotional face that this meant so much to me. Fast forward 3 days where I had travelled solo to Paris purely for this gig, and Caleb Harper, Ashton Hardman-Le Cornu, Keiran Lama and Peppa Lane once again blew me away and seduced me to a mixture of tears and smiles with their deep lyrics and sunny rhythms. It was in the penultimate song of the set and one of the most poignant tracks for me ‘Hardlight’, where Peppa noticed and recognised me. She gasped as she saw me as if to say, ‘I remember you and I can’t believe you’re here’. I immediately pointed at myself and back at her to double check she was really looking at me and this was happening. She nodded and laughed as I burst into tears, and she threw me her guitar pick and smiled even more. It is hard to express the emotion, passion and feeling that went into this interaction and what an indelible memory was made.
It was beyond my wildest dream for this to happen to me with my most beloved band in a foreign country for all of us. The intimacy of seeing such an incredible band with such powerful messages is something very rare and I am so happy I got to experience this. Thank you, Spacey Jane, for your continued honesty and spirituality for your music lovers.
